What is the difference between gt30 and vt30

Veriac Standard Member. Hi First of all I don't have any experience in TV's. I was at the store the other day and the TV guy recommended me to read avforums. Now straight to the point. Like my topic tittle says I got my eye on the Panasonic GT30 42inch and the VT30 42inch this will be my first plasma so I have some questions about it. BTW my choice for plasma is because I like to watch soccer and play on the PS3, also picture quality is important for me thats why I will go for plasma.

Now my questions about plasma TV's. Does plasma really suck much more electricity? How big is the chance to get a burning screen, or how to avoid? Do you need to do something special if you just bought a plasma TV like keep it off for some hours before turning it on for the first time? Any other things I should keep on mind about plasma? Is the price difference between the 2 worth it? Are their differences between the 42", 46", 50" and 55"? I heard the bigger the size the better panel or quality Any other things I should consider before I chose?

Thank you in advance for reading all of this and your help! Pop along to the plasma forum and read the info above the posts There are also reviews of both models in the review section Viewing distance influences the size you should choose, sit too close and the quality suffers And this very question was also asked yesterday ok about the 50" - have a look through recent posts - this gets asked a lot. Hi Veriac - my views as follows:- Plasma Q2 - Personally, I don't think on the latest models there's as much chance of burning screens as on previous models - unless of course you're going to leave it on a certain screen for a couple of days!

Basically, turn it off when you're not watching it. Plasma Q3 - Just follow the set up instructions in the manual for the set you get. In my view, quality depends on how far you're away from the set and what size it is - really near to a big set and dodgy IQ - too far from a smaller one and can't see the detail. Also school of thought that 3D under 50" is not as good as 50" and over ie not as much depth. All a matter of what's best for you and your setting. Is price difference worth it?

Things to consider before choose - hopefully GT's and VT's will get a web browser soon supporting flash with a bit of luck - if that's important now you might want to consider say a Samsung D if in a rush to buy! Is there a vt30 now too? What's peoples best prices on All 42" of gt30 vt30 or vt20? Prefer warranty? Don't mind bindle of blu ray player and glasses if good offer? I don't think the OP is based in the UK, could be wrong though.

Now that many retailers are including 3D glasses with the GT30, what are people's thoughts on whether the extra for the VT30 is worth it? Any thoughts? Mikewebb Active Member. I've got the exact same Dilema Mike with the 42" models. Read every post in both threads, read numerous reviews but still can't decide. I'm just going to have to try them both and decide there and then - always dangerous with the credit card in my pocket.

Last edited: Jun 18, Also included 5 yr Panasonic warranty currently only available to sets bought before 30 June. My main use will be for Sky HD and 3D inc football together with YouTube and network file viewing and, in my opinion, the GT is certainly a good enough picture for those needs from what I've checked in Stores and read about but, if it doesn't deliver after a week or so of use at home I'll endeavour to swap it for a 42VT or even a 50VT if the Mrs can be persuaded the latter's not too big!

All the best with your own choice s. Also they said theyd take it back for 1 dead or stuck pixel. All in all pretty impressed with the service, now I just hope the set lives up to it when I colelct it tomorrow.

Now my room is pretty light large window to the right and patio doors to the left of the TV so good performance in a bright room would be useful and I do like the design of the VT30 too Think I better track one down How big is the chance to get a burning screen, or how to avoid? Do you need to do something special if you just bought a plasma TV like keep it off for some hours before turning it on for the first time?

Modern Plasma are very robust and much less susceptible to screen burn and image retention. As people on this site will testify though, it can still happen.

Issues are more with logos and static graphics in games. You can "bake" your new plasma in by running it at "normal" levels for the first few weeks or so to minimise any issues before cranking up the brightness and contrast.

Plasmas are not as bright as LCDs, but offer better black levels and more consistant illumination. The VT30 features a better panel and better filter to absorb ambient light and improve still further contrast and black levels.

I have the GT20 Last year's model and the panel looks slightly grey until power is applied, when it goes a bit blacker. The VT30 looks almost jet black, even in a well lit room.

IMHO, plasmas work better with sport, as the faster reponse leads to less detail loss in fast moving scenes. You do not get any movement artifacts or jitter from most sources and the built in freesat and freeview tuners are very good. I bought a pair of cheap 3d specs and now have all the "standard" 3d films - Tron, Avatar, Iceage 3D etc.

Fun to watch and it does add something to the experience. I don't think you will notice much difference over a recent LCD, which will be about W as well. The TVs all offer similar quality and viewing experiences within their model series, so pick the one that suits your viewing distance. Too big a set will be uncomfortable to watch for long periods and watching SD from Sky or off DVD etc will look quite poor.

Depends how big your lounge is and how far away you intend to sit. My 42" looks great from 8' away, but I know some people would want 50" or bigger for sports at that sort of distance. Veriac Hi mate I would be very catious about burn in, if i were in your shoes which i kind of was a few months ago.

I also thought that, because PQ is the most important thing for me, and after reading all the forums and pro reviews from various sources, which declared, that burn in is no longer an issue, and if you were just a little bit carefull, its almost impossible to get permanent damage.

Well, thats all turned out to be not the case. Burn is is still alive and well, and in my Eyes very easy to get, because, i have one on a Panasonic VT20, from playing 1! I was carefull, used the TV only for what it is intended, and still got burn in. Mate, if i were you, i would buy an LCD, because, Plasma might have a PQ advantage, but it really is not worth it, if you consider, that you have to worry about damaging the screen all the time, as long you have it. The slight PQ loss, is really a very small price to pay when buying an LCD, considering that you are about to spend the extend of Euros on the TV, and you can damage it very very easily, even when you babying it.

And if you really not into 3D, then there really are very good LCD TVs, which are pretty close to plasma, but you CAN actually use them for doing, what a TV should do, whithout sleepless night and damaged screens.
